Methodology & Evidence Limits
Understand how mentions are collected, sentiment coded, specs verified, and where the data is weak.
Data Sources
Our corpus is built from public owner comments harvested from car, regional, and dashcam communities (e.g., r/Dashcam, r/CarsIndia, r/AskUK). These comments are reconciled against a hand-verified spec sheet for each model.
How We Score
- Mention Volume: How often a model or brand is recommended in the corpus.
- Owner Sentiment: An editorially coded score (1-5) for each comment, reflecting the owner's satisfaction. This is not a marketplace star rating.
- Community Breadth: The number of distinct subreddits and threads where a model is discussed.
- Spec Confidence: Specs are graded (High/Medium/Low) based on sourcing. High confidence means verified against official listings or multiple consistent sources.
Evidence Limits
- No Lab Tests: We do not test cameras. We measure reported experience.
- Sentiment Bias: Comments are self-selected and often positive. We do not compute failure rates or lifespan claims.
- Sparse Data: Some models have limited comments. These are flagged or excluded from top rankings.
- Price Volatility: Prices are snapshots and change frequently. We always show an "as-of" date.
